Workshop 1: Crafting an Accessible Syllabus (90 Minutes) 

The syllabus provides an essential overview of your course but can also be a source of unintended barriers for students. Join Mariah Lossing, Director of Student Accessibility and Accommodations, for an interactive workshop for faculty committed to developing and fostering an inclusive course. This session will explore the elements of creating accessible syllabi to meet students' diverse and changing needs.

  • Understand accessibility: Begin to understand the importance of accessibility in higher education and the impact on students and their success
  • Formatting for Access: Practical tips on formatting including headers, lists alternative text, lists, images, and contrast
  • Language and Content: Learn how to use and apply inclusive language to support diverse learners.
  • Accommodations and Resources: Gain insight into outlining accommodations and support resources within your syllabus
  • Interactive Exercises: During the workshop, engage in hands-on activities to revise your syllabus and troubleshoot future ones.
