Wordplay Festival Goes Virtual, Starting April 7

Wordplay art reformatted

ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â is once again sponsoring , the Loft Literary Center's now virtual book festival featuring 100+ authors.

In response to the COVID-19 situation, the Loft chose to take the festival online and extend the festival from April 7 through May 9. The Loft anticipates up to eight weekly events to be announced on a weekly basis. There is no cost to attend; all of the virtual events are free and open to the public. Many of the events also will be recorded and available online for future viewing.

The Loft designed this event to engage the broader community in critical conversations – a value we share as a liberal arts institution and that is core to who we are at St. Kate's. As part of the events schedule, there will be a yet to be determined number of author sessions noted as that align with our mission and commitment to social justice.

Here is the schedule of the events for this week:

Tuesday, April 7 at 11:00 am CST

The Loft's Wordplay kicks off with Olympian Jessie Diggins giving a live talk and Q&A about her memoir Brave Enough. Immediately following the Q&A join Jessie for a 15 minute gold medal workout. The only equipment you'll need to participate is a book!

Thursday, April 9 at 1:00 pm CST

In one of the most anticipated releases of the year, award-winning author Charles Yu (Interior Chinatown) delivers a biting commentary on racism and pop culture in America through the darkly humorous, ironically apt form of a screenplay. Yu is joined by beloved Minnesota author Bao Phi as they examine the realities of Asian Americans living in a land indoctrinated with stereotypes against them and the damage these pervasive, narrow-minded roles can have on an individual's sense of self and belonging.
