Celebrating Earth Week 2017 at St. Kate's
In 1970, the first Earth Day brought together 20 million Americans to launch what is now considered the modern day environmental movement. This week, St. Kate鈥檚 joins a billion people from nearly 200 countries worldwide to 鈥渄iversify, educate and activate鈥 about the impact of climate change on our environment.
With an eye to sustainability and environmental protection, throughout the week student groups across campus will give talks, screen a film, host a clothing swap, and more. Earth Week activities culminate on Earth Day (Saturday, April 22) with participation in . Student organizers were thrilled to find out that Minnesota was planning a local partner march.
鈥淚 knew right away we had to participate, and when I heard that it was happening on Earth Day, I knew it was the perfect way to top off our week鈥檚 activities,鈥 says Nicole Szyszka '17, student sustainability coordinator for Earth Week. 鈥淚 feel that it鈥檚 really important for students to have access to the opportunity of going to the State Capitol, and knowing that St. Kate鈥檚 is supporting them.鈥
Szyszka herself will be at the March in Washington, D.C. Her Summer Scholars research team is presenting at Posters on the Hill early next week.
St. Kate鈥檚 BioClub, the School of Humanities, Arts and Sciences, and Campus Ministry are organizing two buses to the local march in St. Paul. Seating is limited. Participants can reserve a ride here: http://stkat.es/sci-march [link no longer active - this event took place in 2017].
