Statement regarding the death of Daunte Wright

Sun shining on St. Kate's campus quad.

We are disturbed by the shooting death of Daunte Wright by Brooklyn Center police. The killing of a young unarmed Black man at the hands of police, at a time when we witness the trial of the former Minneapolis police officer accused of killing George Floyd is especially disturbing. We are hurt that we add another name to the list of fatalities as a result of police violence.

This is a difficult time for many in our community. Students may access mental health support including traditional counseling sessions, crisis counseling sessions, after-hours crisis telephone counseling, to brief consultation sessions ("Let'sTalk" sessions), and BIPOC drop-in offering may contact the Counseling Center by emailing counselingcenter@stkate.edu, calling 651-690-6805, or submitting a Crisis Counseling Request Form. Faculty and staff get assistance through the Employee Assistance Program by calling 800.538.3543.

We offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Daunte Wright. And we call for peace in our communities even through pain and frustration as we continue to fight for racial justice.
