鈥淒uring the last couple of years, our goal was to educate students about resources, find a friend group with which they could belong, and feel safe where they live,鈥 says Amanda Perrin, director of Residence Life. 鈥淲e are thrilled about this national-level recognition of our efforts, and excited to continue working with students to make their campus experience as fulfilling as possible.鈥
Amid the challenges brought to on-campus housing at colleges nationwide, Perrin and the Residence Life team invested considerable time conducting assessments, listening to student feedback, and adjusting programming to accommodate student needs. During Residence Life assessments, students reported that they found St. Kate鈥檚 campus life fulfilling for five chief reasons:
- Ability to meet people and be part of a community
- Events and campus involvement
- Convenience in relation to classes and student support
- Increased sense of independence
- Housing costs being bundled into a single bill
Residence Life offers students a variety of community engagement opportunities. Second, third, and fourth-year students acting as Resident Assistants (RAs) host check-ins and activities such as New Friends and Shared Obsessions, where students can come together over shared interests. Residence Life also organizes on-campus events throughout the year, including the student favorite Starry Night Ball.
As students shared, life on-campus at St. Kate鈥檚 fosters a supportive community while providing space and resources for students to gain more independence, all while they learn and develop academic and professional skills. 鈥95% are satisfied with their choice to live on campus,鈥 says Perrin, 鈥渁nd you鈥檙e 13% more likely to graduate in four years if you live on campus.鈥
