Public health alum Halimo Ismail MPH鈥19 was recently awarded a one-year fellowship with the Center for Global Health at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia. This CDC-funded fellowship supports emerging global health professionals in developing technical skills needed to respond to today鈥檚 ever changing public health needs and challenges.
Ismail鈥檚 primary public health interests are in nutritional science, international development, as well as refugee and immigrant health. 鈥淭he global health perspective, along with a commitment to social justice woven throughout the MPH curriculum,鈥 are just two of the unique components Ismail values from her graduate school experience, Ismail says. 鈥淚t was during a study abroad trip to India where my excitement for global health really expanded my desire to pursue a career improving the lives of disadvantaged populations both locally and overseas was solidified."
Through her graduate work at St. Kate's, Ismail also discovered her interest in monitoring and evaluation of global health programs, and has been matched with the Center for Global Health in the Global Immunization Division for the Monitoring and Evaluation Track. She will have unique opportunities to assist in the planning and implementing of targeted activities at the CDC and will be able to use her skills in public health to invest in the future of healthy communities both locally and globally.
