ɫӰ alumna Minda Suchan ’95, PhD, has been recognized by Canadian magazine Espirit de Corps on their 2023 list of women leaders in the defense industry. “2023 Breaking Down the Barricades: Women in the Defence World” profiles women who are making a difference in a traditionally male-dominated industry.
Suchan is the vice president of geointelligence at MDA Corporation in Richmond, British Columbia. In this role, she oversees the company’s Geointelligence and Earth Observation business, as well as MDA’s operations in Richmond, BC, Nepean, ON, and Halifax, NS, including over 700 space and security professionals.
In her profile, Suchan emphasizes the impact that her mentors have had on her career, and urges young women to build a network that offers them a wide array of perspectives, opportunities, and support.
“As women, there can be a lack of confidence in our own skills and abilities holding us back,” said Suchan. “More than once, I have seen incredible women who are more qualified than the male applicants, but hesitate to apply to a position without encouragement. That experience is why I also think that finding mentors is essential.”
