For AAPI Month, and every month: #StopAsianHate

ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â is excited to celebrate in May. Throughout the University community, there is a great deal of pride in and gratitude for our AAPI members; we celebrate the richness and diversity of the many AAPI heritages and stories represented in our community and shared by our students, alumni, faculty, and staff. This month, like many other months where our diverse heritage is celebrated, allows us the opportunity to restate our commitment to inclusive excellence. On campus today, where St. Kate’s student body includes 10% AAPI students, our Office of Multicultural and International Programs and Services provides time, support, and resources for students of color. This includes organizations like:

  • Asian Women's Association
  • Southeast Asia Student Alliance
  • SHE Pab: Voices of Hmong Women
  • Voices of Asian American Students

We wholeheartedly stand in solidarity with our Asian students and strive to create safe learning spaces for all students. We acknowledge and validate the experiences of our AAPI students, faculty and staff.

Unfortunately, and throughout history, members of the AAPI community have suffered acts of racism, which often goes unreported. As we call for a more just world, we must recognize events of the past year — the wave of hate and xenophobia brought on by derogatory language used to refer to the COVID-19 virus and violence, aimed at persons of Asian descent is unacceptable and must end.

ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â categorically condemns all acts of racist violence against any of our dear neighbors. We equally categorically condemn the systemic racism and patriarchy that strips identities and humanity so quickly and heartlessly.

In order to end the violence, everyone must do their part. We must change this, starting with ourselves. The St. Kate’s Library has compiled a that may inspire a point of beginning.

This kind of intention is not reserved for May or any other month: recognize, call out and stand against instances of terrorism, racist violence, hate crimes, and acts of white supremacy wherever you see them.

Let’s #StopAsianHate
