​St. Kate’s community mourns loss of trustee emeritus Mike Galvin

Michael "Mike" Galvin, Jr. died on September 21 at the age of 87. He served on the ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â Board of Trustees from 1999 to 2008. As a board member, Galvin served as vice chair and secretary, chaired the Plant and Technology Committee, and was a member of the Executive Committee, the Committee on Trustees, and the Council on Resources.

Galvin and his wife, Frances Culligan Galvin ’54 have been champions for St. Kate’s. The couple regularly attended campus events and were loyal donors to the University.

In addition to St. Kate’s Board of Trustees, he also gave of his time in many other capacities. Organizations such as the Minnesota Bar Association, the St. Paul Chamber of Commerce, the Minnesota Marine Art Museum, the St. Paul Winter Carnival, and the University of St. Thomas, were among those to benefit from his service.

Galvin graduated from Cretin High School and later, the University of St. Thomas. He served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force from 1952-1954. He graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1957, and immediately joined Briggs and Morgan. He proudly practiced with the law firm for his entire 60-year career.

Mike and Fran have seven children. Oldest son, Sean, married Mary Dawson Galvin '85, a St. Kate’s alumna and current staff member.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 28, at O'Halloran and Murphy funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 29, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in St. Paul, with visitation one hour prior to Mass.
