University community mourns the loss of Ann Redmond, CSJ, '62

Alumna and faculty emerita Ann Redmond, CSJ, '62 died on March 9, 2018 at the age of 84.

Sister Ann received her bachelor鈥檚 degree in English from the College of St. Catherine in 1962 and went on to earn an M.A. and Ph.D from the University in Minnesota in Education with English as a supporting field. Sister Ann joined the St. Kate's English Department in 1978 and retired in 2010 having served St. Kate鈥檚 in various capacities.

Sister Ann鈥檚 excellence in teaching and care for her students earned her the St. Catherine Faculty Teaching Award in 1983 and 1989. She received the Myser Award for Teaching Excellence in 2005.

Ann鈥檚 passion for justice and legislative action was evident through her work directing the Center of Excellence for Women, Economic Justice and Public Policy. She spearheaded initiatives in 鈥淕etting Out the Vote鈥 and coordinated a state-wide conference in anti-human trafficking in 2003 鈥 work she continued tirelessly until her untimely death.

Colleagues and students looked to her as a sage teacher, an ethical leader, and a tireless advocate with deep respect for how she lived out her faith and convictions with action, integrity and humility. Ann鈥檚 death impacts so many who experienced her gifts as educator, ally, colleague, mentor, Sister, relative and friend.

Funeral Services

Funeral services for Sr. Ann Redmond will be held on Friday, March 16, in Our Lady of the Presentation Chapel, 1880 Randolph Ave in St Paul. Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. with a Funeral Mass at 5 p.m. A dinner reception will follow in the Carondelet Center Dining Room.

Burial Service will take place on Saturday, March 17, beginning with Visitation in the Atrium of Our Lady of the Presentation Chapel at 9 a.m. All will leave in procession for Resurrection Cemetery at 10 a.m.
