Last week, 28 student-mentor groups in the Assistantship Mentoring Program (AMP) came together to present their research, programming, and teaching for the Community Work and Learning Symposium.
The Assistantship Mentoring Program (AMP) is a paid assistantship program which allows students and faculty or staff to engage in research collaboration, teaching and program development. The presentation topics varied from student advocate program for STEM to ASL visual media development.
The students shared their findings with much enthusiasm and showed growth in both their academics and professionalism.
In one project, Anayatzy Ortiz collaborated with Cynthia Norton, professor of biology and women鈥檚 studies, on study advocate program for STEM student success. They worked together to build a program to help promote study sessions and guide first-year students who are interested in STEM.
鈥淭o be a STEM study advocate is a really big job and I take it seriously, because we need more women in the STEM field, especially at St Kate鈥檚. I want to find and be the resources to help other first-year students to succeed鈥 says Ortiz.
